As I have only been researching in Canada for about 24 hours I hope you will forgive me if I am asking for things which are actually not available.
I have been checking out some web site which 'Jeffandro' has kindly passed on and have found what could be my Suffolk bor arriving in Cda.
Charles Stephen Bartlett Age 28 Country of birth England Date ship arrived 05 June 1910 Ship - Lake Champlain at Quebec Ports
His address when he signed up for Service in WWI was Lemburg Saskatchewan.
Is it possible to find a Census record for 1911 - where can I find this information please?
I have found the Olive Tree web site link http://olivetreegenealogy.com/can/sask.shtml very useful, but I am still a bit bewildered (although that is nothing new for me
Any help or advice gladly accepted.
By the way - I have no connection to this family, although I have a lot of information on them in their home village of Little Waldingfield, Suffolk. Unfortunately Charles is one of the names on our War Memorial in the village. I am researching the young men of our village who died in WWI and later I shall be researching those who died in WWII.
Many thanks SM ...

Hi SM,
I checked the 1911 census but was unable to find your Charles Stephen Bartlett. There were a couple of men about the right age but each of them was married and your man gave his father as next of kin on his attestation papers so presume he was not a family man.
The Canadian Census can be found at http://automatedgenealogy.com/index.html The 1911census is not yet fully transcribed so if you check back you may find him later.

Thank you so much for looking for me Beth,
As Charles gave his parents as his next of kin I guess he never married. (I have those details from the CWGC web site).
I am just typing up his family story to go in our Parish Magazine for next month.
Appreciate the help and the link too.

I did find this on Automated 1911 Census:
1911 Census /Saskatchewan /Saltcoats/7 Townships 18 / page 10
Saltcoats township, Enumeration district 7 Enumeration district description: 19, 20 in ranges 9, 10 west of the 2nd M, and Lemberg Town
Unfortunately the original is all but unreadable it's so faint but the transcription says:
line 10 Named: Charles Bartlett Occupations: Labourer Age: ?
So about the only thing that can be said about this entry for a Charles Bartlett is that he does in fact live in Lemburg in 1911.
Other Members of the same household:
Alfred Bagg Male Husband Minfried (?) Bagg Female Wife Thomas Bagg M Robert Bagg M Sarah Bagg F Thomas Frank M Labourer
All of which from the point of your research really doesn't tell you anything. Sorry.

Hello Dollylee and Beth,
Thank you both so much for the information you have been able to find, I am very grateful
I have been researching the names on the Memorial and as I am the Local History Recorder* for our village, I already had some information on the Bartlett family. Charles was one of fourteen children to Alfred and Sarah Bartlett. The information I have on Charles begins .....
Ambrose and Mary Bartlett were Little Waldingfield people, their son William was baptised in the parish church on 24th July 1739.
It is good to be able to put Charles' story into words, unfortunately he lost his life in the very last days of WWI and his final resting place is in France.
Thank you both very much for helping to bring the story of this Suffolk village lad to a close.

How were you able to read his birthdate and age on that census image? Even the transcription had only ? for everything other than his name, sex and occupation. Did you somehow enhance the image?

I cheated a little. I had my son look at it, and I guess his eyesight is much better than mine.

Janice M - thank you so much for so many links to check out.
I have Charles Bartlett's details from his Attestation papers and his details of arrival in Canada in 1910. I needed to check the 1911 Census, and yes, I now have the details.
From our Commonwealth War Grave Commission web site I have the details of the battle which took place around Aulnoy (Valenciennes) in October/November 1918 just days before the Armistice was signed (in a railway carriage in the Foret de Compiegne). As Bury St Edmunds - where my children attended school - is twinned with Compiegne we have all visited the Museum there.
We regularly visit France and have often looked at various cemeteries with great sadness. We have also visited British, Canadian, Ulster and Newfoundlander Museums around northern France. This year I may try and visit a couple of the cemeteries I am learning about with regard to the village boys.
I have my first draft of the story of Charles Bartlett and am now researching another name on the Memorial - Private Harry Butcher (who lived in the village all his life, leaving only to travel across the Channel to fight for his country).
Thanks to Beth, Dollylee and Janice,
best regards, SM ...
