My interest is Charles Jones born 1819 Herefordshire could be Ledbury but not certain.

He came to Australia before 1848 and married Elizabeth Teakle in Victoria

Is it possible to search for another Charles Jones in Herefordshire with the birth date about 1819?

This may well be mine but a document for his childs birth says born Herefordshire but he could have lied

Hi - There are quite a few Charles Jones born Herefordshire, but this one comes up in Ledbury, Homend Street, and the others are a year or two each side, so this is likely to be your Charles.

So the census entry given above you think is him?
It says not born in County but on his childrens birth certificates it says born Herefordshire?

Your help is appreciated as we are visiting the UK in three weeks and I am trying to find out as much as I can

Hi -  Ledbury is only a couple of miles from the border with Gloucestershire and Worcestershire, the county border is literally just down the road, and if he lived in one of the small villages just over the border he may well have been recorded as being not born in county, and yet still regarded Ledbury as the area he was born.

Lovely area by the way

My home town of Monmouth is very close to the borders of Gloucestershire and Herefordshire, the census overlap here into neighbouring counties, some villages are in two counties.  People who live around the town if asked where they are from by someone who was not local would say Monmouth, rather than give a village name that people wouldn't know

Because Charles is only recorded in one census, you have little to go on other than his details passed down, 1819 Ledbury? (area)

There is a Charles Jones living in Kington, a lime burner, about the right age, but Kington is on the other side of the county.

If you search other counties it wont help, there are sure to be Charles Jones born 1819, but if he was born Ledbury it will only say not born in county, there is no way of knowing which county.
