Hi Bob Sorry that is not Mary on the 1851, 2171-f810 is part of a group of folios that cover Chester Castle Prison, the Crossley concerned is a John Crossley aged 60 born Huddersfield employed as a watchman, his wife Fanny is on folio 770 aged 53 born Ireland. There are only two other Cros(s)ley's indexed in the Chester reg district and neither are Sarah. The 1861 is not name indexed but I will have a look around the area she was found in 1871.

Hi Bob I have had a good search around the 1861 today and they were not to be found in the St Mary parish. So I thought I would check the births districts of the children, and they were not indexed on the Cheshire BMD which according to the 1871 they should have been,so I checked the 1881 and they are there at the same address but the children are now listed as being born Manchester, so it would seem that Sarah and children may not have been in Cheshire until after the 1861 census. This link is for the 1881 If you search for Sarah and daughter Mary and you then go to the next household you should find Thomas.

Allibaker,
Sorry I took so long to reply but I had a computer crash and you can guess the rest. Anyway, thanks for the info. I belive that Sarah Crossley may have been living in Manchester in 1841. She married there in 1846 to Thomas Whittingham.
Can anyone see her, age about 18, in the '41 census.
