HOLMAN Kenwyn
« on: Wednesday 09 May 07 13:16 BST (UK) »

Hi, I have been researching my family tree and had Thomas Holman bapt. 21.09.1765 child of Thomas Holman and Constance Lukes married to a Mary Penrose (b.circa 1771) on 4 feb 1792 at Kenwyn Cornwall.
however i have just came across their son Johns bapt 06.11.1808 details for when he worked in the copper mines in South America and it gives his mothers name as Mary Johns.
can any one help me out here.
It appears that a Mary Penrose b. 1766, child of Mary Helens and William Penrsoe married a Thomas Holman also she died in 1825.
Cheers
Toni

Hi Toni,

does seem to be a bit of an excess of Thomas Holmans  Undecided

In Kenwyn we have

Thomas HOLMAN = Margarett CLEMENTS 28 Oct 1669
Thomas HOLMAN = Abigail BRAY 30 Jan 1730
Thomas HOLMAN = Constance LUKES 26 Jul 1764
Thomas HOLMAN = Susanna WILLIAMS of Kea 14 Dec 1791
Thomas HOLMAN = Mary PENROSE 4 Feb 1792
Thomas HOLMAN = Grace  COAD 5 May 1810

Looks like this is the one you want In St Gluvius

Thomas HOLMAN = Mary JOHNS 26 Jan 1799

So we have 2 Thomas and Mary's in Kenwyn having children at the same time. Tricky I have one of these situations myself. At least in this case the pre 1799 births can be attributed to Thomas = Mary Penrose

Burials St Keyne Kenwyn

HOLMAN Thomas 21 May 1813 aged 83
HOLMAN Constance 26 Jun 1816 aged 88
HOLMAN Mary 26 Oct 1836 aged 69

No Mary listing a burial in 1825 in Kenwyn, 2 elsewhere

HOLMAN Mary 21 Apr 1826 Crowan aged 73 ....She is way too old
HOLMAN Mary 22 May 1825 St Mary Magdalene Launceston aged 59

Now there is a Thomas in Kenwyn in 1841 looks like with his daughter

HO107/147/16 Folio 10 Page 12

Kenwyn

HOLMAN Thomas 75 Y (Yes born in County) Farmer
HOLMAN Eliza 30 Y

There does not appear to be another one in Cornwall by 1841. Looking for deaths. Nothing in Kenwyn. I can only see 2 possibles listed in other parishes

HOLMAN Thomas 22 Aug 1820 All Hallows Kea aged 55
HOLMAN Thomas 25 OCT 1830 St Piran Perranarworthal aged 63

Unfortunately IGI is down I wanted to have a looksee for possible baptism ideas for Thomas and Mary just to see what other Thomas's were about at that time and to see if by any chance Mary Johns was born in St Gluvius as that is where the marriage took place. Will try again later

Aha got it

There is a Mary seems to fit with the 1836 burial and a marriage in St Gluvius

JOHNS Mary 1 Jan 1767 St Gluvius parents George and Elizabeth

With that I suspect this may be the parents marriage at St Gluvius

JOHN George Gentleman of Penryn = JOHN Elizabeth Widow of Cambron by licence 21 Sep 1760

Now you wouldn't read about it but there is yet another Thomas Mary combo which probably accounts for the Perranarworthal burial as children born there. No marriage there.

and more Thomas Mary marriages I will include in case they end up helping with eliminations

HOLMAN Thos = HOLMAN Mary 15 Sep 1787 Gwennap
HOLMAN Thomas of Boyton = GILBERT Mary 15 Aug 1784 Werrington

IGI lists baptisms in the right era in Perrarworthal, Boyton and Gwennap, besides the Kenwyn ones

There is a slight error here - Robert & Mary Ann HOLMAN & family (my descendants) lived in Southgate Club Street.  Enumeration District 2 (cont'd) - Civil Parish of Launceston St Mary Book 1 Folio 10 Page 12 is listed after the Workhouses.
