In the meantime, you may like to try Mr David Hills who has compiled a comprehensive marriage index (1754-1911) for much of this area - see email link (East Ashford district marriages) on the Kent Lookup Exchange http://members.tripod.com/~jo42/knt.html

Hallo bishopsb. I was in Ashford Library this morning so have done a little on your behalf. Firstly, according to the parish register for Kennington, John HILLS was baptised there 8th February 1807. But that is all the information given - no parents names. There are other HILLS in the baptisms, but the same applies. I checked for Hills from 1813 when the official forms came into use and came up with William, son of John and Elizabeth HILLS, bap. 24th April 1813, and also Frances, daughter of Richard and Anne HILLS, bap. 7th February 1816. You still have a problem with who John HILLS parents actually were. In the Great Chart registers there is only one Charlotte baptised 1814, therefore likely to be the person he married. The entry is for Charlotte, natural daughter of Kaziah (or Kuziah) LINK, bap. 3rd (or 9th) May 1814. I am afraid the entry was not very clear. Unfortunately, I did not have time to look for a marriage, but hope this helps. Regards, Scobie

Hallo bishopsb. The church marriage records for Great Chart and Kennington do not appear to be available in Ashford library. However, in Great Chart baptisms there is Keziah LINK , bap. 16th January 1799, daughter of John and Elizabeth LINK. With regard to the problem of who John HILLS parents were, I see in the 1841 census for John and Charlotte HILLS family that there is an Ann HILLS aged about 60 living with the family. One would assume that she is an elderly relative, most likely John's mother. I doubt I can find out anything more with the records available in Ashford. Regards, Scobie
