Herbert Edward Gill Marriage look up

hey all,
After concentrating on my fathers side of the family, i thought my mother was feeling left out so to that end I'm looking for info on my greatgrandfather, Herbert Edward Gill, Im trying to trace his marriage, it was in 1922 i believe but i can only find one marriage in Ely that year with my greatgrandmothers maiden name which was Day.

so i just wish to confirm this was him, and perhaps any info on where he was born as i'm not 100% on this. Im also trying to trace when he was born, as he could have been any age when he was married in 1922. 

any help would be great,  Grin

You can check the GRO indexes free on http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx

At that period the spouse's surname is also given which is useful for cross checking.

I can't see a Herbert E Gill marrying a Day 1920-5, but as you didn't give his wife's christian names I couldn't check on her name.

Usually to check if you have the right marriage you have to buy the certificate - and add check points when you order online.

However there is an Edward H Gill married Victoria E Day in Ely registration district in the June quarter 1922 ref 3b 1370

If you buy the certificate you'll get fathers' names from which you should be able to trace the families in censuses.
