1901 census - PENTALL
« on: Saturday 12 May 07 10:24 BST (UK) »

I am looking for a George Pentall born c1898 in Shropshire, in fact any Pentall as it is such an unusual name. Would someone kindly look into the 1901 census please? On freeBMD I have found an Albert born in Kidderminster in 1863 and married in 1895 and a Carrie born in 1896 in Bridgnorth in 1896 and I wondered if these were the same family.
Thanks
Sue

Hi Tati,
Excellent, more than I could have hoped for, linking the Albert born in Kiddermister to George (Esther's late husband) and my George, sorted all in one go!
Many thanks

Hi Sue,

From the registers of Saint Mary's Church, Bridgnorth.

Christened 20 Sept 1896, Carrie, dau of Albert & Caroline PENTALL, Mill Manager of Pale Meadow House.
In the margin - Born 20 Sept 1896 and (what I think was an abbreviation for) Private Baptism. Perhaps this indicates Carrie was born a sickly child that was not expected to live. She died aged 5 months - see below.

Christened 15 Nov 1898, George Godfrey, son of Albert & Caroline PENTALL, Worsted Spinning Mill Manager of 2 Pale Cottages. In the margin - Born 27 Sept 1898.

Christened 7 Aug 1900, Madge, dau of Albert & Caroline PENTALL, Worsted Spinning Mill Manager of 2 Pale Cottages. In the margin - Born 5 July 1900.

No further PENTALL children were Christened at that church up to & including 1906.

Also from the Church register - Buried on 1 March 1897, Carrie PENTALL, age 5 mths, of 3 Hospital Street.

From the Municipal Cemetery book - Buried on 1 March 1897, Carrie PENTALL, age 5 mths, dau of Alfred (sic!) Grave No. 770 Consecrated ground.
I have checked today - there isn't a headstone.

Hi Gwynn,
Thank you for all that extra information and the time spent. I notice the move from Pale Meadow House to Pale cottages and then 2/3 Hospital Street (unless Pale Cottages were in Hospital St).
Regards
Sue
