hello elaine, welcome to rootschat, i have looked through all my stewart stuff but have come with
nothing for you yet.i'll keep looking.
you'll find everyone very helpful on here, if they can help they will.

my william stewart c1820 was from ballynagard in culmore at least his son john was born there 25-11-1864. william married rebecca lynch in ballyarnett pres. church on 27-11-1849. william died 1872 rebecca died 1900 they are buried in cofi. muff.
i wondered if they are related to yours Huh
elaine if you can find the caretaker for the graveyard he may be able to tell you if there is any records. i often find they know a lot. (comes from tracking them down lol)  i go on sundays that way you'll find people visiting the graveyard, and nine times out of ten they will know who looks after the place.

                                          kind regards mary.

My father is looking up his family tree and I have found his grandfather John Stewart, born in Co Donegal, living in derry city at the time in 1911 census and he was married to a mary, also born in donegal (unable to find maiden name had 8 children 6 boys and two girls-boys names william, john, george, michael, patrick gerrard) I have worked out that John Stewart was born in 1864? married 1864. Would appreciate any further information

Welcome to Rootschat, actonian. Stewart's a very common surname but the 1911 census is a fantastic resource.
Here's the link to the family:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai002845834/
Says that john is 47 years old (born c1864) and married 28 years (c1883). Since older children are also born in Co. Donegal the marriage might have taken place there.
You can search index to civil registrations online (free) but without Mary's maiden name you can't find matching details for a marriage to John Stewart but any of the children's birth certificates will list her name- if you get a certificate for one of them born in Donegal it will give you a location there.
