could mary Packhouse be Mary Parkhouse? is she listed as a relation ? as Philips wife Eliza was Eliza PArkhouse and could possibly be her mother.

Hi Toni
I've rechecked - I think it is Parkhouse. Unfortunately the 1841 doesn't give relationships. Ages for adults also tend to be rounded to nearest 5 eg 25 is 25-29. I would think there is a high chance that Mary is related somehow.
Looks like wee George died before the 1851 census.
Philip seems to change jobs quite a bit Cheesy
Jan Wink

Have you found Philip in 1881? I can't see him, or did you mean he died 1879?

yes he did change his jobs quite abit but later settled as schoolmaster! Grin

thanks for the info. re Mary i can now look for a marriage between Richard Parkhouse and Mary Unknown as Elizas parents.

is there any chance you can look on the 1851 census for Richard and Mary Parkhouse both born devon although not sure where, i only have the details for Richards from his daughters marriage certificate. they may have died by then.

Hi toni
Nothing very helpful. In 1851 there is no sign of Mary Parkhouse in Bideford - there is one candidate but matching her with the 41 she is not the one you are looking for. I can't see Richard in 41/51 in Monkleigh/Bideford area.

There is a death for a Mary Parkhouse in Bideford in 1845 on FreeBMD - this could be her but no guarantee Mary is Eliza's mum. There is also an 1859 death for a Richard in Bideford - hmm I'll have another scout for him in 41/51.

Sorry no sign - there are a couple of much younger Richards in the area who could be the death. Looks as if he died between 1838-41. However although he should have been listed as deceased on the marriage cert if he was already dead by then it didn't always happen, so you could be looking at a pre-registration death for him.

How about this IGI marriage, extracted record, as a possible for Eliza's parents?

Richard Parkhouse to Mary Sing at Monkleigh on 3 May 1795

There is also a a suitable 1813 baptism for an Eliza in Monkleigh parents Richard and Mary

Thanks Jan,

Richard Parkhouse is not listed as deceased on the marriage certificate (of his daughter) so i am assuming he was still alive then.

Never assume anything Cheesy I do have one marriage certificate where I know   the father of the bride was deceased (I have his death cert) but it does not say so.
