Unfortunately the IGI indexes are far from complete. My great great grandmother was Frances Andrews, whose name I found in the Parish registers as being the daughter of Thomas and Lucy Andrew, b. 1813, Fownhope. Thomas and Lucy married 1811 and also do not appear in the IGI. Whether it is carelessness in the indexing or the index was taken from Bishop's Transcripts I don't know. I suspect that both Thomas and Lucy came from Fownhope from consistent census return entries. My filming of Fownhope registers only goes back to 1812 baptisms and a little earlier for marriages. Frances' future husband was Joseph Tyler, born 1811, possibly by Joseph and Mary Tyler whose marriage I found but no baptism of course. I would appreciate help from anyone who has access to the earlier registers.
this lists the registers available on familysearch by parish. You can then search each register separately instead of by county as on familysearch.
There is the earlier Fownhope baptism register (1675-1812) which I searched but no sign of the people you are seeking. I wonder if they were baptised at a nearby church or maybe the home parish of either the mother or father? I noticed that the next door parish of Woolhope is not on the IGI via Hugh Wallis.
Sorry I am not being much help am I?
Have you seen the Fownhope website? (google it) . Fascinating history of the parish including that of a momentuous flood in 1811 - just the time your ancestors were there! Perhaps this was a reason they were not baptised in the village?
It would be most helpful to you if some kind soul could study the filmed registers at Hereford Record Office.
Thanks for the information and I appreciate your help. I do need to spend some time over the pond to visit some of these places; I agree that Fownhope looks idyllic, as do some of the other villages around where my ancestors lived and died.
Your last sentence is the key. Maybe some kind soul picking up this thread will help a poor Yank out!
