It is a curious one indeed.
I see from your previous message that a James Attrill did marry a Martha Scudamore so I wonder if the transcriber has put the two surnames around the wrong way ?

Also I wonder if James and Martha were divorced and then James married Ann Bartlett ?

I wondered this too.  But the main GRO index duplicates the entry as John Scudemore.  The other one came from the IOW BMD index.  Undecided

Divorce was very uncommon at that time - it needed a private Act of Parliament and cost a lot of money, so I think divorce is unlikely in this instance.

Thank you for trying on this one - I am not sure what has happened to Martha and James. Unless you can think of something else.

I wonder if they emigrated ?

I will check what records I can here in Australia and see what I come up with

I visited the Isle of Wight in Spetember and had a look around Whitwell churchyard and found the graves of Mark and Jane and several of their children. The most surprising one was for Osmund Attrill who I had alway assumed had been the one to marry Martha Morris. Osmund died on Mar 12th 1821 aged 2 years.

Here are the details of what I could read from the graves I found, the gravestones were very worn and difficult to read. I also have photographs of them if anyone would like them

In memory of Isaac Attrill
Departed this life April 1st 1826 aged 37 years

In memory of William Attrill
departed this life Aug 11th 1816 age 67 years
and
Jane wife of William
departed this life Dec 5th 1838 aged 77 years

William and Jane Attrill

Henry died Jan 1802? aged 15 months
Charles died Jan 1805 aged 6 weeks

Maurice died Feb 15th 1821 aged 5? years
Osmund died Mar 12th 1821 aged 2? years
Ellen died Mar 21st 1821 aged 2? years (I think the date should be 1824)
Francis died Dec 5th 1836 aged 15? years (I think the age should be 13)
