Crowther - Calder Valley area
« on: Saturday 04 December 04 14:26 GMT (UK) »

In 1974, I started looking at our family history.  Using various documents that had been handed down, I formulated the basis of a family tree.  From there, I tried to fill in some missing information by examining archive material at the reference library in Halifax - which, at that time, was located at Belle Vue, between Hopwood Lane and Lister Lane.  I also spent hours looking through various church records and graveyards, noting down any Crowther that I encountered.  In recent years, I have subscribed to a few genealogy forums and a number of people have been very kind by way of providing information but it's now thirty years on and I'm no nearer to finding the missing family members now than I was then.  Consequently, I would like to ask for some assistance from anyone who might be able to help.
I would dearly like to be able to trace any family members who would be connected to ROBERT CROWTHER and his wife, BETTY, who lived at Pickwood Scar at, I think, around 1841.  The couple had several children, ISRAEL, CHARLES, SQUIRE, EDWIN, JAMES and EMMA.  Edwin married Mary Standeven, daughter of Greenwood Standeven, in September 1855 and died in September 1897 aged 62.  He is buried at St. Luke's at Norland with other family members.  I know very little about his siblings and/or their descendants.  If anyone could enlighten me, then I should be very pleased to hear from them via e-mail at Email address removed by moderator to prevent spamming - please respond by personal message

Firstly, I'd suggest using www.familyhistoryonline.net to trace the 1841 family members in 1851. Then I'd wait until www.1861census.co.uk comes on, to take me another ten years.
