I was tracing my British south african White line and it ended with a Alfred Ernest White. Marriage banns of 1865 say he was recently of "Old Kent Road." I searched the Free BMD index and came up with an Alfred Ernest White born 1845 in that area and am trying to verify that these Alfred's are one and the same.
I ordered the certificate and discovered Alfred Ernest was born 3rd of Feb 1845 to a Francis and Fanny (formerly Bowles) White. Francis is listed as a Cooper and they live at Canal Bridge Old Kent Road.
One of my Alfred Ernest's sons was named Walter FRANCIS Can someone tell me how to verify? Also does anyone have access to the 1851 census for this area and could do a look up of the family?
Looked on the 1851 for, Canal Bridge, Old Kent Road, Camberwell. Sorry no one of those surnames there. Its was in Camberwell if that helps. Rz

You mention the marriage banns for Alfred Ernest WHITE 1865. I assume this is a UK marriage? If so, do you not have a copy of the actual marriage certificate? The certificate or the actual entry from the church marriage register should give his father's name.
The Canal Bridge [over the Surrey Canal] is at the junction of Old Kent Road and Peckham Park Road. I hope this helps you. The junction is at the Canal Bridge bus stop and appears on bus route indicators.

Alfred Ernest was married to Ann Brewer in south Africa and the only thing mentioned about him was that he was from Old Kent Road. That is all the marriage banns said.
