Hi Stephen

This is going to sound off the wall.....but......is it possible that Isaiah had another name?   What about Charles for example??  Huh

To confirm your doubts...there is no Isaiah found after the 1901 census in Preston.  But from that huge SCOWCROFT family I believe I've found brother George and his wife Alice Florence Tildsley in Grafton, Mass on the US 1920 census and then in Central Falls, Rhode Island by the US 1930 census.  But there is a Charles that seems to be tagging along on the same sort of route.  Charles married an Annie Addison in Preston 1905 just one year after George wed Alice in 1904.  I"ve got this Charles and Annie in Grafton, Mass by 1930.  Seems they were likely in Preston having kids until about 1913...and then went to Canada....and then ended up in Mass.  All invovlved in the mill industry which is in keeping with the ancestral occupations in Preston.

What do you think?  Am I totally nuts??  Roll Eyes

I'm not totally certain these belong to your immediate Scowcroft family yet....but they certainly must be cousins if nothing else.

Will provide more info if that will help.

Best wishes

Hi again

Ok...I'm getting even more convinced it might be possible.  There is an immigration record of brother George and aother assorted family connections...sister I believe but haven't sorted them all out yet arriving on 9 APril 1912 on board the Megantic.  George states his wife is still in Preston....but one of the others says his closest relative is Isaiah Scowcroft in Preston.  This pretty much links them into the right family I think.  Can't explain why Isaiah might possibly become a Charles.  But I'm still holding to that wild guess theory.  It would be interesting to view the MC of Charles and Annie form 1905 Preston and see who he lists as a father.

Hope this is helpful

Best wishes
Jean

Thanks for all the information, which all sounds very interesting. It would expalin why I can't find a few of the Scowcrofts in any English records.

ALso, I think the Megantic is the same ship that some of my Clark relatives immigrated on to RI and MA (the Clarks are cousins of the Scowcrofts - Isaiahs mother was originally a Clark).
