Oh boy, oh boy, it shows you are never alone.
Long time back I had over 100 messages and thought I would prune out the dead wood. After all most of it wasn't needed and I didn't want to take up more space than I had to, so I chopped happily away to 1 page.
Everything was going away nicely...till then.
Suddenly if I wanted to view a new message I had, what I see a lot of us had, to delete a message to get it.

Oh joy, I have now reversed the messages and have newest on top....

Let's see what happens next....

I am receiving notifications of new messages and the top of the page indicates a number of new messages but when I access my inbox no new message is shown.

I have discovered that if I delete the last message from the inbox one new one appears.  Is there a problem or am I doing something wrong?

Hi David

There have been quite a few threads about this. The answer seems to be that you have to change your profile settings  Smiley

Go to your profile, then under Modify Profile, click on Look and Layout Preferences, then scroll down and make sure the box next to 'show most recent personal messages on top' is checked.

This seems to solve the problem for most of us.

Regards

Thank you for your help and Bob as well who PMd me.  Most recent at the top solves the main problem.  However you are still left with the problem that you lose messages off the end.

I don't...well, I've been up near 100, and then decided to have a clear out.

That is a new one. I've not lost any off the end and at one stage I got up to 1500 messages before I got around to deleting them  Embarrassed

It doesn't seem to have anything to do with clean outs.  I deleted about 25 messages about a month ago.  Suddenly this week I had a notification for a message that wasn't there although the total number was still way below the number there before my clean out.  I found the missing message by deleting a message as I said above.

When I changed to having new messages at the top I made a note of the last couple of messages.  When I successfully received a message at the top I checked the last one and it had disappeared.  Once again I can recover it by deleting a message.
