Yapp Family
« on: Sunday 14 November 04 17:23 GMT (UK) »

My Shropshire interest is the Yapp's and Rawlings from Ludlow,

Recently met my late fathers elder brother  Bernard Yapp(who I didn't know existed)
he is 97 and still lives in Ludlow.

Have got lots of data on Yapp's from Hereford and Shropshire if anyone is interested.

Regards

Hi:

My gg grandmother was Ann Yapp, baptized as "Ann James Yapp" in Clungunford on 9 Feb 1840. She married Edwin Powell of Culmington. Ann is buried at Hopesay and died on 12 Jun 1815. I believe that her parents were Richard Yapp and Ann Botwood who married in Clungunford on 10 June 1837.

I be interested in finding out if you have any further information on this Yapp line or indeed if you have any information about them at all.

Thanks,

Eric,

Have tried sending you a response but don't know whether you received it to ask where your Yapp's originated from.

Adrian,

Sorry for the delay in replying.
I know on the Latter Day Saints site Ann is shown as Ann James Yapp but on the indexes she is shown simply as Ann Yapp (Dec qtr Clun XV111 45 )
Richard and Ann Yapp (nee Botwood) had a son Richard baptised in 1840.
He is shown on the 1881 Census living in Wolverhampton.
Don't know of any connection with this family and my line of Yapp's as yet.

I was very interested to see your message on the Yapps, as I don't come across many of them.

My Great Great grandparents were John Richard Pugh & Elizabeth Yapp. Elizabeth was from Lydbury North, Shropshire, as were her ancestors traced back to 1645. John and Elizabeth married in 1870, Lydham, but had their first 3 children on the Wirral, Cheshire. They then returned to John's hometown of Bishop's Castle for 3 years, where they had 2 more children, before moving north again by 1877, this time in Liverpool.

Elizabeth Yapp was born in 1839 to John Yopp & Martha Thomas, who had married in 1833. Elizabeth's siblings were Eliza, Emma, Hannah, George, John & Richard.

Elizabeth's father, John Yopp, was born 1810. His parents were John (1783) & Nancy

This John, 1783, was son of Thomas & Eleanor

Thomas, 1759, was son of John Yop & Mary Jones

John, 1726, was son of Samuel Yop & Elizabeth Habberly

Samuel, 1700, son of Thomas Yop & Kesia Tipton

Thomas, 1668, son of Francis & Margery

Francis was born about 1645

I would love to hear from anyone who recognises any names here, or who believes they have a link to Lydbury North Yapps/Yopps

Ohh, Yes, so there is... John & Martha Thomas. I would be very interested in the later family of Elizabeth Yapp's siblings, as my mother remembers visits from Shropshire relatives, who may well be Yapps rather than Pughs, as I think they had a connection to Lydbury, where Elizabeth's family were from. Although fairly distantly related by my Mum's youth, it seems they may have continued to keep in touch.

You have probably found the amazing site which lists the parish records and census returns for Lydbury.... being in the North West, I'd never have traced them so far back without the site... (I forget the address, but it's easily found via websearch).

Interestingly, Elizabeth & John Richard Pugh also had sons named Arthur (1870) & Walter (1877)...Perhaps named after their Yapp cousins. The other Pugh children were Henry John, Rose & Alfred

I look forward to hearing about your branch
