Hey Bob,
You're joking!
I'm sure Ruskie means a special board for people who have really seriously been seeking for their ancestors/rells for ages and ages and yonks.
A special BRICKWALL board (with a COMPLETED child board - ha, ha) - not your everyday brickwall. And Mods could remove any posts which weren't really serious brickwalls! And posters would be required to spell out in detail everything they know, and every deadend they've tried.
Might be an idea?
Especially for RootsChatters who thrive on the really hard puzzles

KerryB,
I see what you mean
Nevertheless ...
JAP PS: Perhaps I should rephrase what I said. And limit it to RootsChatters who have been seriously seeking their brickwall ancestors on RootsChats for yonks ...

Thanks, Arranroots, for giving us the "official" position on reposting. I have often wondered what it was! I shall remember it in case I need to do so in the future.
And thanks, Tati, for referring us to the brickwall thread. My God, 12,000 plus posts!! You must have been here for ten years or so!

Yes Jap I did mean a brickwall thread - someone's beaten me to it. Hours of interesting reading there by the looks of it. I'll be interested to see if any walls were broken down. Thanks for the link Tati.

What about if you've hit a brick wall, posted all the links that you've researched so far and then realised maybe there is another angle you could try? Although it may be related to the original query it is, in fact a different question?
Is it ok to do that? Isn't this family research business about a degree of lateral thinking when all the obvious trails have gone cold?
The people on here are fantastic and there has been at least one occassion where I searched the BMD indexes time and time again but still kept missing the death entry I was looking for - it took another pair of eyes to find it.

Precisely Jillie42!
That is just what I meant - real serious brickwalls where people have very seriously tried and tried and tried, and such people would have to spell out on such a brickwall thread every single thing they have done (negative and positive).
And then just one little bit of lateral thinking might break it down. (That's probably wishful thinking but who knows ...).
Mods would probably have to keep their eyes wide open to ensure the posts were true brickwalls

I started a thread over a year ago:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,147114.0.html
It was really an idea to perhaps link to postings that we'd made.
I think there was another one as well.
Gadget - still can't find the right drill or hammer though

This has been a really interesting discussion. I am always drawn to the "brickwall" posts, particularly if they are in areas of the country that I am familiar with. I certainly agree that cross referencing earlier postings on the subject is essential. What I do find helpful though is a summary of everything that has been found so far - this is even useful on a single thread where there have been lots of postings. When replying to these types of queries I will often ask questions about areas researched before launching into lots of details from censuses etc - it is very easy when you have a brickwall to forget to include some information that you have already found. I think the summary sounds like a really good idea anyway. Simply to summarise the information searched and information found for myself. I have a feeling if I did this for some of my brickwall it might just show me a different angle to search.
Adding it then to a Brickwall club would bring in other people who might have other ideas to search as well.
