Turner Parkstone 1871 hunt.
« on: Saturday 26 May 07 15:23 BST (UK) »

Hi all,

I am stumped!

I have found my great grandfather Thomas Henry Turner born 4 Mar 1854 Parkstone, Dorset. in census 1861, 1881-1901 but I just can't track him down in 1871.

He had a brother William George b1850 and they were both baptised together 27 Sep 1857 in Longfleet. I have not found William in any census since 1851.

I have no father for either boy, Thomas' birth certificate does not list one.

His mother Diana Turner was born 1828 in Parkstone. I believe she died in 1868 so she probably won't be with him.

Thanks all for your magic.

That's him Pam. Smiley

>>further up the page...

Interesting! I believe Diana's father John married an Ann Tilley b1796. I think the Cole connection may have been from a previous marriage of hers but I have found nothing down that route either.

To add to the Cole tangle I believe this might be Ann's marriage to a Henry Cole:

Poole (To 1955) v8 p122

Good catch on Ann in the Workhouse! I only noticed that one today. Smiley

Pam,

Ooohh! A marriage for Elizabeth! I'd better check that out, looks good though.

I had George's family. His son George goes on to marry  Caroline (I think Turner too!) and has another son George b1900!

heywood,

That was my only possible. Kinson is a way from Parkstone (nearly 4 miles). This one just doesn't feel right to me. He appears in every other census from Parkstone.

This could be proved wrong by finding him in another census from Kinson, I'll take a look.

Paul,
I had a quick look but can't find another Tom/Thomas Turner from Kinson- indeed the only Turners who come from there are in 1891 and 1901 - a wife  and daughter.
Hope it's him
