Samuel PARTRIDGE & Ann NOBLES - Sharnbrook
« on: Sunday 27 May 07 16:58 BST (UK) »

Hello.  I have a bastardy recognisance from Beds Archives QSR date 12th June 1828 citing Samuel Partridge, labourer of Bletsoe as the father of the child (not yet born) of Ann Nobles of Sharnbrook.  Now Samuel Partridge did marry Ann Nobles on 4th April 1831 (witness was a George White).

I suspect Samuel P to be son of Thomas & Elizabeth baptised 1802 Bletsoe & Ann(e) N to be daughter of William & Mary baptised Sharnbrook 1809 age 1.

I'd like someone else to try & find these on 1841 census with the child - as I cannot find them.
Or find me a baptism of their child
Or find me a burial of wife Ann
Or anything else ....

Thanks John

Hi John

The only burial I can see was at Ravensden on 23 Dec 1832 of AP age 21, which doesn't look right.

Likewise I can't see a baptism of a child of Ann Nobles in Sharnbrook, but I'll have a go at the BVRI in the morning when I've set it up on the laptop.

All the best

Hi John

I think you can probably disregard that Ravensden burial as there's a baptism on the BVRI of an Ann Partridge on 15 March 1812 at Ravensden.

There's nothing on the BVRI which sheds any light on the problem.

Have you found Samuel in any census, let alone the 1841, as I can't see him. Nor can I see a burial in Beds

All pretty negative I'm afraid

Regards

John

Thomas P was 46 in Bletsoe in the 1803 National Defence Muster - listed as a labourer with 4 children still under age 10.

Also in Bletsoe, Thos NOBLES was a 50 year old labourer - he also still had 4 children aged under 10.  And there is a Ben NOBLE [age not recorded] who was a labourer with 1 child under 10.  And a Wm NOBLES [who was a tinker] aged 50 is listed in Sharnbrook.

David,   Thanks for looking.  Looking back at past information on this name, it's interesting to note that there is a burial of Samuel Partridge at Sharnbrook age 27 on 24 Dec 1841 - so also where is this one on 1841 census.

I did find a Samuel Partridge age 30 on 1841 in Thorney Cambs.

HO107/78 Folio: 6 Page: 6

He is a boarder (along with a Thomas Pettit) both born out of County, living in household of Thomas Baker & Mary.  What is interesting, is that this is where a John Partridge of Sharnbrook was lodging in 1851 - it is the same Thomas Baker & Mary, as the same neighbours Reed & Bonfield appear also on both census images. John P was my gt-grandfather on his way to Peterborough. So based on JP from Sharnbrook being there in 1851 then the SP in 1841 also came from that area.

HO107/1747  Folio: 960  Page: 8

Then (1) there is a Samuel Partridge who is buried at Sharnbrook St Peters - with an monumental inscription stating he died Dec 17th 1811 age 29.  Who's he ?

Then (2) there is Samuel Partridge b 1799 chr 12 Mar 1815 Sharnbrook - son of Jeremiah & Martha P. Jeremiah was a wheelwright, & I'm pretty sure this Samuel P to be the one on 1841 living in Pavenham & again on 1851 in Sharnbrook.

Then (3) there is Samuel Partridge of Bletsoe b about 1800 who was in Thurleigh in 1844 when he was put into Bedford gaol for stealing sugar spoons, then tried & transported to Australia. This one I'm investigating further when I go to Kew in July.

Sort that lot out ...... Regards John

Thanks Cathy,

That Thomas P was my gt-gt-gt-grandfather - he did have that set of children at that time. His son Richard (my gt-gt-gf) married Mary Nobles - assume to daughter of Benjamin Nobles & Elizabeth Boddington.

I believe the Ann Nobles to be daughter of the William & Mary Telford
Previously William married Ann Bird in 1783 - she was buried 1784
Initially William married Hannah Harper in 1779 - she was buried 1781

Cheers John

I think this Samuel is the one found on 1841 age 25 Wheeler (wheelwright), living at Eaton Socon married to Sarah (ne Rowles) with 2 month old daughter Elizabeth.  After Samuel's death Sarah P married William Allen in Sharnbrook in 1847. I do suspect that this Samuel is son of John P also a Wheelwright of Sharnbrook and Elizabeth Ward, but it would be good if someone might be able to find the detail of this. According to 1841 census John & Elizabeth also had a daughter Martha b 1811, & when she married John Payne in 1848, a witness was Samuel Partridge - coincidence ?
