NEW/ Marriage for Giles KERSWILL

On the IGI I have found the marriage of Giles Kerswill to Betty Sanders on May 21,1792 in Pinhoe Devon.  It doesn't list his parents names.

I looked on the IGI for a birth for a Giles Kerswill & found the christening for one Oct. 2, 1755, Broadclyst, Devon. It lists a William Kerswill but no Mothers name.

Is there some way to find out if these 2 Giles are the same person, & what his Mothers name is?  If they are not the same person who are the parents of the Giles Kerswill who married Betty Sanders in 1792.

Hi

Fathers names were not shown on marriage entries until 1.7.1837 when civil registration was introduced.  Mothers names were never shown on marriage entries

Hello there

If you click on the batch number of that IGI baptism record for Giles, and then search on that batch number for baptisms with father's name William Kerswill, you will find several entries in Broadclyst over a couple of generations - the generation which Giles falls into seems to start in the 1840s.

Then looking for marriages of a William Kerswill in Devon at that time you will find a marriage to Mary OSMOND at Broadclyst, 28 Aug 1742.

Not conclusive but a start... Wink
