Could sks please look up an ELIZA LEWIN on the 1841 census?

She was born in Leighton Bromswold, Huntingdonshire in 1801, and she died in 1848 in Woodford. I believe she is in Woodford in the 1841 census, possibly living with or close by a William Blott.

I can see William and family in Woodford (nr Thrapston) aged 50 a surveyor.

No Eliza Lewin though.

Any other information that may help.

Thankyou for looking!! What a shame she isnt there!

All i have on Eliza is that she was born 1801, the daughter of Jonathan Lewin and Sarah Beal, and baptised in Leighton Bromswold.

She never married as far as i know as when she died in 1848 she was still known as LEWIN. I found a transcript from the 1841 Northhamptonshire newspaper which had information about the theft of belongings from Eliza Lewin and William Blott, which is why i had assumed she would be either living with him or nearby. I have also lost her elder sister SOPHIA LEWIN and cant find her on the 1841 census either! Perhaps they are hiding together!

Just a thought here Emma...do you think its possible that Sophia Blott age 50 living in Woodford(with William Blott on the 1841 ) could be your Sophia.
According to 1841 she was b 1791 which would tally with her birthdate of 1786 as the ages on this cencus are rounded.

Yes indeed Jane!!!!! I didnt even think to ask what the wife was called!!

SOPHIA LEWIN was born in Leighton Bromswold in 1786, as you say!!

Does it say that Sophia was not born county on the 41 census? If so we have found one of the elusive Lewins!

Indeed there was yonderpeasant!

Thankyou for that! I must have this census as it seems familiar! I suppose i hadnt noticed the ELIZABETH as i was so sure i was loking for an ELIZA, but that looks as though its the correct woman! Just goes to show you shouldnt always assume anything!!

Thankyou again!! One mystery solved! Now need to prove this SOPHIA BLOTT is my SOPHIA LEWIN!!??

no luck yet with marriage but in 1851 Sophia is aged 63 and born Hunts Leighton which fits.

I do love a good criminal to investigate.

Thanks for checking ahead in the census' yonderpeasant! That has proven to me that this Sophia is mine!

Jane: thankyou for the census' also!! The John and Sarah Lewin you have found have intrigued me. They dont look like mine, as my Jonathan died 1813 and my Sarah died 1826, so wouldnt be on the census for 1841. They both died in Woodford.

Just been looking through my notes and noticed that a WILLIAM BLOTT of Barnwell was executor of Jonathan Lewin's will (sophia and eliza's father!) So there is definitely a link with Blotts, Lewins and Barnwell!!

Got me thinking now! Oh to have access to all the census and PRs right now!!!..

William Blott married Sophia Lewin in Clapton in 1810 and was from Barnwell St Andrew.
