McKenzie & Cameron
« on: Monday 06 December 04 10:40 UTC (UK) »

Hi
I am looking for anyone who may have a connection to Alexander McKenzie (b Feb 1925 Urray, d 29 Aug 1886 Undera, Vic, Aus) who married Margaret Cameron (b abt 1831 Urray, d 3 Dec 1913 Brunswick, Vic Aus) on 8th May 1854 in Urray.
They emigrated to Australia soon after.

Hi

I have a Margaret Cameron in that area about that time, but I've not much info to go on.  Do you have any context (father's name or siblings)??  She's a sibling of my ancestor.

All my info comes from a tree prepared in the 1960s and I confess I have not got on to that branch of the family in my researches yet!  Let me know if I can be of assistance.

Cheers,  Arranroots

Hi
Sorry to take so long to reply, but I missed the notification email.
Unfortunately I don't have a lot of info on Margaret other than an estimated date when she was born.
Her death certificate here in Australia which should have shown parents was incorrectly filled in.  Cry
After checking the IGI & a few resources here I believe her parents may have been ALEX. CAMERON & ANN MACLENNAN.
Alexander & Margaret's children may provide a clue.

I hope this may help & we can connect up the lines.

Cheers

Hello again!

There's some correlation with the families, but probably not enough to be considered a match!  My Margaret's father was Alexander, mother unknown at this stage.  siblings:

Kenneth 1811 *
Kate *
Finlay 1814
Annie 1819 *
Jessie *
John
Alexander 1 March 1828 (my ancestor)
Roderick (died young)
Donald 1835
Margaret

(* = emigrated to New Zealand together, then some on to Australia)

I have this research from a relative, who carried out in the 1960s and have not verified any of it.  The notes on Alexander senior say "after eviction moved to Dingwall and Loch Brome".

Hope this is of interest, if not directly pertinent to your searches!!  Wink

Hi
I agree that we may be clutching at straws to get a match.
Would you be able to tell me where in Australia your Camerons emigrated too, I might be able to track a few of them down.
I have just came back from doing some cemetery searches & came across a Jane McKenzie nee Cameron b abt 1834 d 1919 (Husband Alexander) who is buried next to my Margaret McKenzie nee Cameron.
More food for thought.

Cheers

Hello Bryan!

Three of the original siblings went to New Zealand, where they established a cafe called the Highland Welcome at Dunedin, with Kenneth and Annie moving on to Oz.

Kenneth married (not sure where ?in OZ) and had children Alick (sic), Rory, Kenneth and a daughter.  Kenneth junior reputedly had 7 children.

Kate married unk SUTHERLAND ?in NZ

Annie married unk FRASER and had daughters Margaret (1860 -1939) and Jessie, probably in Adelaide which is where they ended up.

Annie's daughter Margaret married unk MASON and had children Lewis and a daughter.  Lewis MASON had 8 children.

Had never thought to trace their descendents, but am now intrigued!!  I'll bet they are warmer than I am right now in chilly Gloucestershire.
