Walsh in Durrow
« on: Tuesday 29 May 07 23:09 UTC (UK) »

Hello everyone

Could anyone please help me trace my Walsh relatives from Durrow? My great Grandmother was Johanna Walsh b about 1855 and married Fintan Breen in 1874 in the Roman Catholic Chapel at Durrow (I have a copy of this registration).

She had two sisters Annie (c.1853) and Mary Jane (c.1851) - both of these came to live in London as did a brother Edward. There may have been other siblings - a Nancy Walsh was a witness at Johanna's marriage.

All I know about their parentage is that their father's name was also Edward and according to one of his granddaughters he lived to be over 100! (This of course may not be true).

I would be very grateful for any suggestions.

Liz

Hello there Liz,

I'm trying to piece my Breen ancestors together and would be interested to know where your Fintan Breen was from. My great grandmother was Elizabeth Breen, born about 1879, somewhere in Co. Laois I think, but I don't know any more than that.

Thanks,

Hello Niamh

I believe Fintan Francis Breen (a baker) came from Maryborough, although I have no details of his birth/baptism (abt 1852 from monumental inscription and marriage record).  His father's name was Martin.

I think he had a brother also called Martin.  His children (that I know of) were sons - Edward b.1877 and Martin b.1875 and a daughter Frances.

I am also struggling to get any further forward on the Breens and wish you the best of luck in tracing Elizabeth.

Regards
Liz
