Looking good dinie, I really like the layout and your colour scheme, very tasteful and fashionable this season!

Thanks guys for your comments, I knew I could rely on you. My home (index) page was the one that was really bugging me, I know it's not right but can't decide how to change it.
Julian I like your holding page, enticing glimpses of what to find within.
Kerry, those photo's took ages to get right, but I am pleased with them.
One thing i'm never too sure of is how long is a good length for a page, how far should we expect our visitors to scroll down, etc?

One of my bugbears is pages that are too long and you have to scroll too far. I almost go for not much further than a screen full but that is not always practical and is maybe just my opinion but certainly pages that just keep going down and down and down are a bit pointless to me and should be broken up!!!

One of my bugbears is pages that are too long and you have to scroll too far.
I've got some long "data" pages, but I think your rule of thumb is a good one for more general pages. But sometimes it's artificial to break big blocks of material into short pages - one option is to summarise longer pages at the top, with links down the page to specific sections of material.

Anchors - yes I use them for my work website quite a lot because some of our technical pages are quite long and couldn't be broken up onto separate pages. One handy tip for a page using anchors is to have some links that say Back to top taking you back to the top of the page again.
Boy are we all getting lazy that we can't scroll up and down pages

I have long thin text for my stories with lots of piccies in the margins. It would be daft to break them up.
I think it all depends what the text is. If it's interesting and easy on the eye/easy to read then that's OK. If it goes on and on with no real reason and lots of different topics then it should be split.
The important thing is not to have wide-ie, I think.

Ok you're right! you're story would definitely not make sense on more than one page but it's not just text as you say it is broken up with images. 
However take a quick look at this page

I've just produced this page for work and I'm desperately trying to show my boss it needs breaking up. I managed to get the forms and projects onto separate pages because originally they wanted them all on the same page. I said no way!!!

Mind you it is a narrow page, maybe the trick is using the whole width of the page and plenty of images.
I guess to be pleasing to the eye I like to be able to see images and not just a whole screen of print, it turns me off and I can't be bothered to read it unless it's really interesting of course!

Hi hopefully one of you NOFers can help me
When you've got a page open in NOF9 if you choose the HTML source tab you get a page of HTML of the page you are looking at. On the left hand side of the screen there is a menu down the side with all of the code.
I pressed something a couple of weeks ago and managed to lose that left hand side menu and I can't get it back. I have searched on the online tutorials but as I can't even remember what was in that menu of what it is called I can't find how to get it back.
Can any of you help please?

Hi Guys,
I've been working on my Family Tree Site...or rather I started but found it's a lot harder than I expected. With so much info I can't even decide where to begin...by family names - or places - or chronological... Or maybe just do individual stories and sort it out later.
I've kind of decided to go more for the stories around the people and background info on places and the things they might have done or been involved in rather than just names and dates and a tree as such but other than that I keep changing my mind.
Any advice to get me going?

Also- a techy question...
I've been looking at links and opening them in a separate page. I found something that gave some code you had to put in a box in the html bit of the links page which was supposed to insert it into the main HTML but it didn't work... is there something different I should be doing?
