Last Voyage of the Lusitania. Hardback published 1957. Lots of pictures, index. Good condition. Absolutely fascinating.
There was a programme on tv on this the other night. Apparently, it was hit by only one torpedo, but it also had ammunition on board, so it sunk in no time at all, as the ammunition exploded. The admiralty told everyone it had been hit by two (or more) torpedoes. and only admitted the truth long after the event, as it was trying to hide the fact that The Lusitania had ammunition aboard. It was also given no navy protection, despite the fact that it should have been.
A very moving story. The captain was the last person to leave and stayed on the bridge while the ship was going down, but was picked up and saved. He cut a very sad picture afterwards, but was vindicated in the ensuing court case.
