Gill family of Kettering, also Copeman
« on: Friday 01 June 07 07:20 UTC (UK) »

I am researching the Gill family of Kettering, in particular a Dr. John Gill who was a marischal of Aberdeen, he was born in 1697 in Kettering and died in 1771 in Camberwell London. He married Elizabeth Negus of Higham Ferrars. He was a son of Edward Gill and Elizabeth Walker of Kettering and was quite a notable man, he features on several websites. I am attempting to link him up an Ann Gill who married a Philip Copeman in Costessey, Norfolk, Ann was born in 1749, she may be his granddaughter according to an old record I was given.
Dr John Gill had one son called John who was a goldsmith in London. My problem is in checking whether or not these old records are correct.
I also would like to know if this Gill family goes back to the MacPherson clan as this old record shows, through Gille son of  Muriach - he goes back to Gillicatton Mor.
