I am trying to establish the identity of the Uniform worn by my 2 x Gt Grandfather G.B.Bell. He was a Fishmonger in Alnwick so i know he was not a full time Soldier.
There is a newspaper clipping of Sgt G.B.Bell presenting a prize to the winner of the Martini-Henry Shooting Competition on Alnwick Moor 1896.
The winner belonged to the 1st Alnwick V.B Northumberland Fusiliers. Is this the origin of the uniform?
Thanks, CB

There is a Northumberland Fusiliers museum at Alnwick Castle. They may be able to help you.

Thanks Kooky, i have tried them but they would not even confirm that this uniform would be connected to the Fusiliers unless i paid them a ridiculous amount of money for 1/2 an hour. Until i am sure it would be worth the investment, i will live in hope that someone can identify the Uniform. Regards CB.

Hi CB
Sorry to hear the NF museum is charging a fortune but I'm afraid that anything the Duke of Northumberland has a hand in these days costs money and as the museum is within his castle.....
Anyway - you could try two web sites that I've found useful:
http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/index. This is about the first world war but someone may be able to help you.
There's also:
http://www.regiments.org/wars/index.htm
Good luck. Tessy

Thanks Tessy, I will have a look. I know what you are saying having just had a family holiday in Alnwick, which included a day at the Castle and Garden ! CB.
