Archdeaneries - Information please
« on: Wednesday 06 June 07 21:50 UTC (UK) »

Hi everyone

     I have a marriage between John Aldrich & Elizabeth Wightman/Witeman on 31 May 1687.

In boyds marriage index it is recorded in Archdeaconry of Suffolk. As I'm not quite up with the British Parish, County, Archdeaconry system I'm assuming that an Archdeaconry consisted of a lot of Parish's within the County of Suffolk?Huh?

The IGI records this marriage with only the date & that Elizabeth was "Of Framlingham" and a marriage Lisence was obtained at Ipswich.

Is there any way of finding out exactly where this marriage took place?

                                                     Kim

The Archdeaconry of Suffolk does contain the Deanery of Loes - which in turn has the parish of Framlingham.

Will dig out my Fram PRs and see what I can find for you

Wightman is a Framlingham name  Grin
