Hi, I would love to know about this family.  My Kerr's came from Annan, Dalton, and other parishes in dumfries.  Bet these would fit in somewhere.

I have really just started working on this line, and my McGowan line.  I have been able to find some of them in census, and a baptism for Isabella Kerr in Kilbride.  Isabella married James Tweedie 1815 in Cairne, Dumfries.  Her parents were John Kerr and Margaret Esbie (sp?)  I also have a Janet (Jane) Kerr b. abt 1806 Dalton, Dumfries.  She is the daughter of James Kerr and Janet Neilson.  I have her death record.  Janet married William McGowan.

Hi Brenda and James Kerr, thank you for your response to my post. I do hope that we can make connections with our Kerr and Ker families. I have been continually researching my roots for the last three years and have made a number of contacts with other people also researching their family history in the same geographical area. I have been given information that has provided evidence for establishing links among Kerrs throughout Dumfriesshire and parts of Kirkcudbrightshire. Places in Parishes like Mouswald, Torthorwald, Dalton, Troqueer, Terregles in Kirkcudbrightshire. The following people illustrate the roots of my particular line.
.
James Kerr b. 1718 d.1789 m. Martha Moffat b. 1728 d.1803 . One of their children was Thomas Kerr b. 1773 d. 1829 m. Mary Slater b. 1783 d. 1874. One of their children was James Kerr b. 1811 . d. 1874 m. Sarah Phillips Pattie b. 1812 d. 1877. One of their children was John Kerr b. 1854 d.1907 m. Margaret Wallace b. 1856 d.1917 . One of their children was Hugh Wallace Kerr b.1888 d.1935 m. Ada Smith b. 1892 d. 1978 One of their children was Jean Margaret Kerr b.1920 d. 1996 m. Henry Sydney Owen b. 1919 d. 1993. The last two named people are my parents. I appreciate this is only a brief introduction but it is a starting point for the possible exchang of information . I look forward to hearing from you both. Regards stoop.
