The 1841 census lists William Cross as a gardener.  Would like to know how to go further back.

Hi Derek and welcome to Rootschat!

To get further back you really need to find a baptism record for William Cross.  Do you know where he was born, or who he married and when?

Hello, thanks for the reply.  I don't know his wife's name.  The 1851 census lists him as a gardener journey man widower.  It also says that he was born in Christleton.  Would the church have records regarding his baptism and parents?

Hello Derek.

I believe your William Cross c1786 is the brother of my wifes GGG Grandfather
Joseph Cross c1779.William married twice a Elizabeth Huh and a Anne Huh.
William died in 1862. William 1786 was baptised on 9 April 1786 at St James Christleton and Joseph was baptised on 19 Sep 1779 st James Christleton
parents William & Elizabeth. A William Cross married a Elizabeth Parry on 13 Feb 1779 at Waverton Cheshire which is the next village to Christleton.
