Leicester Public Houses
« on: Thursday 20 March 08 21:03 GMT (UK) »

I am still trying to find information on several of my ancestors, some have previously been mentioned on this site. Several of them appear to have been landlords or licensees of pubs within Leicester. Smiley

Is there a website where I may be able to find a list of old Leicester pubs and which breweries serviced them? Undecided

Here in Norfolk we are fortunate to have Norfolkpubs.co.uk which lists pubs new and old, licensees, breweries etc.

Many thanks in advance for all contributions. Smiley

Hi Steve

I am not aware of any such website but if you could either give an area, rough dates or even better the name of some pubs I will see what I can do.

Regards

Hi

Easier to get to now that there is a by-pass around Thorney.  We travel down there every week and my other half must be the only person to have got a speeding ticket when traveling through there.

Regards

Cheers ( sorry for the pun ) for that offer Half Pint Grin

There are two pubs in question for starters:- Grin

The Shoulder of Mutton in Asby Parva sometime between 1925 and 1960 landlord/licensee George.H.Hall.

The Red Lion in Walcote with landlord/licensee Frank Banbury. I know he was there between 1920 and 1929 but don`t know how many years either side of these dates Undecided

Any details you find would be brilliant Grin Grin

Hiya Mike,

Many thanks for your reply, great information again Grin Grin Unfortunately I have beat you to it this time Shocked Shocked Shocked Sad Sad Sad and have already tried the website your link leads to, hence the reason for my question.
Yes the A47 is warming up nicely........the planned trip to Leicester over Easter has been put on hold for a couple of months until I can answer a couple more outstanding issues with ancestors burials, but thats another story!

All the best Steve

I must admit that the only weekends that we are guaranteed not to travel are bank holidays,  the thought of the doing the Hardwick roundabout is just too daunting  Roll Eyes
