I joined this site today, 3rd July 2008, entered one of my surnames in the search box and found this message re Chets and Hamers.

My grandad`s brother was Isaac Fielding Mayoh born in 1891 in Egerton and son of William Mayoh and Alice Ann Fielding. Isaac  was the only child from six surviving children to attend Chetham's Hospital / School (transcribed on the 1901 census as Moych, M o y c h). Another brother was Joseph Edward Mayoh born in 1887 who married Annie Mayoh ( no confirmed relation as yet but with a name like that there must be). Annie Mayoh was the daughter of Walter Mayoh and Alice Thomasson. Alice T born 1862 Egerton, daughter of John Thomasson and Tabitha Hamer ( b 1827 Egerton).

Good to see others searching the same area.

HI Anne

Welcome to Rootschat!  We overlap slightly then as Tabitha Hamer was the older sister of my husband's 2 x GGrandfather.

Let me know if you're interested in comparing notes further back!
