If you have the above details from the 1881 census what was the mother's name? I can only assume these are the rest of the family as you haven't let us into that secret.

This is great Mary!
You have the right family on all counts.
Mothers name was Margaret Jane and her husband William died abt 1891.
Thanks for all the help you're giving me.

Sorry I've lost Edward in 1901 and can't spot William in either.
Margaret Jane is uncertain, but there is a marriage in December Qtr 1895 Houghton Le Spring 10a 765 to either Robert Nelson or William Stephenson Peel.
As the other female name was also a Margaret it's more uncertain but, there is a Robert and Margaret Nelson and this one

I feel that the age of Sarah may have been unclear in 1861, I don't see any born about 1850 but there is a Sarah b1845, parents Matthew and Jane, Sarah Ann b1847, parents Harry and Jane and Sarah J b 1845 parents Matthew L and Sarah.
Keep a note of these as they may be related to Charles.

Birth of Margaret Jane Donkin 17 June 1834 Sunderland, Durham Parents Charles Donkin and Ann Brough
There is also an entry for 22 September 1832 Sunderland, Durham Parents Matthew Donkin and Jane Allinson
You'll only know for certain if you get the marriage certificate for William and Margaret Jane which will give her father's name.
Somebody has entered the marriage of Margaret Jane Donkin and William Henry 19 July 1852, so it seems that somebody else has been researching this family, but they have entered the birth of Margaret Jane as 22 September, 1822 Sunderland, Durham.
Unfortunately this sor of mistype is a typical example why the Parish Registers should always be checked for entries on the IGI, particularly those which have been entered as a User Submission rather than transcribed.

Thanks Mary for all the info!
My gt gt Grandfather was Matthew Henry-Richardson's brother.
I cannot beleive I have gone from having no info on my gt Grandad William(Matthew's only son) to all this! All his uncles and aunts etc!
My gt grandad has been a mystery for many years. He left my great grandmother with 2 young children (my maternal grandmother and her brother) to bring up and was never ever talked about! I have since found out that by the time he was 22 he'd lost both his parents and both sets of grandparents! He later moved from Sunderland down to Leicester where he met and married my gt grandmother.
For many years my grandmother would tell me that her dad was from Scotland!?
When looking him up I could only find him living in Sunderland- he had a double barrelled name William Sayers Henry. I also have a photo of my nanna and on the back it has a photographers stamp Newcastle! so they must have gone up there at some point maybe to visit some of the Henry relations!
Anyway its brilliant that you have found all this out for me. I can now add it to the family tree for my mum and her cousin (a Henry!) to see.
Thanks again Niglor
