Hi, im looking for the parents of John Fulford b.22/03/1848 in White Heath, Staffordshire. (Although i have come accross a record with his birth as 1847...) Staffs and Worcestershire border changed at some point and some records say one and some say the other - but the entries are still referring to the same person so i thought id post this on this board as well as staffs...
I know lots about his life - i just dont know his parents. Heres some info on his life: He married Mary Ann Hughes b.1847 from Oldbury, Staffs on 25/02/1866 at St Thomas's, Worcestershire. John was a coal miner - as were most of the family. They moved to West Riding Yorkshire sometime between 1867-1872 (probably to work in the pits in that region) and had a child called Peter in 1872 in the village of Darfield. However, now ive found out when they got married i figure Peter was probably not the first child. After Peter they then went on to have lots of kids: Deborah, James William, Clara, John Thomas, Susannah, Sarah and Mary. I found a 'long lost cousin' the other day (living!) and he has a John Fulford b.1816 and a Mary Lees b.1814(?) as John Fulford's (b.1848) parents. They were born in Handsworth which is not that far away from where my John Fulford was born in White Heath - its all now Birmingham. Im not disputing that they are related in some form or other to my branch of the Fulfords - but im not at all convinced that this John and Mary are John's parents. They are of a very different social class - my family are coal miners and labourers etc and their family are Victuallers and Jewellers! And just to top it off this questionable John and Mary had a son who was called John who was a jeweller - this is definitely not my John Fulford as he was a coal miner! A person on rootschat has also found this John and Mary in 1871 census....but theres a chance John's parents were dead by 1871 - given that John himself was born in 1848... Im trying to find John Fulford b.1848 on a census where he is still living with his parents so if anyone can find him i 1851/61 thatd be great! Sorry its long just though i better mention the 'red herring' FUlford's - the more info the better i figured. thanks very much for your help...I'll post this on Worcestershire board as well... Alison
