Bickley
« on: Sunday 10 June 07 16:07 BST (UK) »

I've managed to trace my family back to Frances Bickley who was born in 1785.  She had an illegitimate son, Joseph, in 1809 and went on to marry a Thomas Simkiss in 1817.   At her christening at St Thomas, Wednesfield on 15.05.1785 her parents are recorded as John and Mary.  I think Mary's maiden name may have been Deeley but am not sure.   If I have the right couple John would have been born about 1760 and was buried in St Thomas in 1818.  Mary was born about 1765 and was buried in St Thomas in 1828.  Unfortunately I am unable to travel to Wolverhampton to check out the gravestones in an attempt to verify this.

If anyone has any knowledge of this family I would be really grateful.

Hello,

Have you seen the entry on freereg.org.uk which gives a marriage for a John Bickley to a Mary Deeley on 18/12/1782 at St Peter's in Wolverhampton?

Hi,

Yes thanks - the only problem is I'm not sure it's the right couple!  When I was growing up in South Wales I thought Bickley was quite an unusual surname, however since I've started my research I have been disabused of this idea!
