Can anyone point me in the direction of any 'miscellaneous' Oxfordshire records between 1775 and 1800?
Anything like Hearth/window taxes, regional censuses, settlement orders?
I need some help in proving that my greatx5 grandmother Lydia 'Snowhouse' who married in Pyrton in 1797 is one and the same as a Lydia Snowsell/Snowsill baptised in North Leigh in 1775.
The surname Snowhouse doesn't exist and a couple of people from the Oxon FHS have suggested that it may be a mistaken attempt by a parish clerk at 'Snowsell/Snowsill'.
The 1775 North Leigh Lydia was baptised at the right time and her father was called Jonathan - a name my Lydia gave to her second son.
When she married in Pyrton in 1797, my Lydia gave her parish as Britwell Salome - and there is a 1766 marriage there of an Elizabeth Snawshell (I haven't figured out if there's a connection yet but it seems likely!).
So, I feel as though I'm in touching distance of establishing the connection between the 2 Lydias. Can anyone help with that final link? Any records which might prove useful?
Thanks,
Jill
