Could anyone look up the 1871 census for Chelmsford please.  Looking for Mary Prior b abt 1868, Chelmsford, parents James & Mary Prior. Looking for an age and any other siblings.

Thanks for the info.  Mary, the daughter, wouldn't be on them as she was born around 1868.  Her marriage cert in 1888 says she's 20.  I will keep them on record, as James might be one of them or even with his wife Mary, if they had married by that time.  If I can find them on the 1871, then I will at least know if there was any more children before Mary and get an idea of when they married.

Can I ask another question of you.  Do you know what was classed as full age? As some of my certs have ages on and others say full age.

I asked that question recently in The Common Room! Apparently full age is 21 years and over. You could marry before that with parental consent and were classified as a "minor". Minimum ages changed over history, but people said that girls as young as 10 could marry and boys as young as 12 - BUT that was a LONG while ago. More recently 16 was considered the minimum age with parental consent.
