Hi all,

I am researching family history, & need to search Cambridge Electoral registers.


Does anyone know of a paid researcher in this area able to perform such a search? I have visited the Cambridge library website, & they are only able to confirm/deny 1 name per paid request? It seems odd because if you go there in person, you can view all entries to date.

If anyone is able to advise, then I would be most grateful.

Hi Romilly,

I thought 192 only goes back as far 2003.

Basically, the family I am researching appear to be married.

I believe this couple had a daughter aged 18 in approx 1986-87, so if I can find this exact birth date, it may shed some more info on elusive certificates.

Unfortunately, this is very recent info, so I won`t be posting any information on public forums to protect privacy, which in turn makes research even more difficult. I guess that if I can`t find a local researcher, then I shall have to pay a costly trip to the British Library again.

Hi Phil,

I was able to trace some 'missing' cousins last year by using a combination of 192.com, BT on-line Phonebook & the UK Info Disc. (I don't actually have a copy of the Uk Info Disc, but I asked on here, & a kind person did a Look-up for me).

I also found that many Local Authorities Electoral Services Depts will do Electoral Roll Look-Ups over the phone, - in one case one of them did Look-ups as far back as 1945 for me!! Sounds like your experience with Cambridgeshire was unlucky:-( I guess that you could ask on the Cambs Board if anyone there could do a Look-up for you?

I assume you've been through the GRO indexes on http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx

It's a bit of a slog quarter by quarter, but it's free.
