Keeping up with the Jones
« on: Saturday 12 May 07 18:08 BST (UK) »

In 1851 Thomas Jones  (born in 1807 ) is  a blacksmith in Elmley Lovett. Worcs Amongst the family is Lucy Jones  aged 31 who is  a widow and is the housekeeper and is described as bro  wife. In 1841. she is with him with "widdow" crossed out and  various other members of the family including William  Jones aged 5 months. by 1851 there is  a daughter Emma aged 6 years as well as son David Jones aged 18 as well as William. By 1861 William and Emma are still with their father and Lucy is still there described as a widow and a visitor (some long stay!!). And as well as Emma and William there is now John aged 6! Now I have been totally unable to find birth registrations for William , Emma or John and I've no idea who Lucy was married to (except I don't think it was Thomas!)or who Thomas was married to. Does anyone have access to the Elmley Lovatt parish  records ? In a small place like that I think they could get away without registration but I can't believe they could get way without christening!

Hi,

Elmley Lovett came under the Droitwich registration district.  There are these possibilities for Emma and John:

Emma Jones, Droitwich, Dec. Qtr. 1844 Volume 18 Page 233
John Jones, Droitwich, March Qtr, 1855 Volume Volume 6c Page 355

Regards,
Mo

Thanks for that. Can't remember if I've ordered these already ( I know I've lots for this side and haven hit  the right ones yet) Still it might help to find which of Thomas brothers Lucy was married to! Of course at that time it was illegal to marry your brother's widow!

Hi There

Elmley Lovett is about 3 miles from Hartlebury & if you can bear with me I will do a look up for you (I am researching one of my main lines at Elmley anyway) but it will not be done before August as that's when I spend my next holiday near there.

Let me know the details of your look uo by e mail please (philheeks[at]yahoo[dot]co[dot]uk)

All the very best

Phil

ps please make this a limited look up as I dont have time to do a blanket search

Just thought you'd all be amused to know that the birth certificates for Emma and John were correct and all they show is Lucy as mother Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin
