All I know about the family is they lived in Castleford where my father, Edwin, was born in 1936. So, expecting the family to stay local to the mining, am assuming Edward was born around Castleford area too. It is believed that Edward was in the services and served in the Portsmouth area where he met and married Dotothy Irene Kingston before taking her back to Castleford to start their family. Irene ended back in Portsmouth with her children but not apparantly her husband Edward who continued his life without them, where, I don't know.

Hello
I think the Butterfield family I researched a few years ago are your family in Castleford.
I am pretty certain it was them - there were Edwins and Irenes in the family. They were descendants of John & Agnes Butterfield who were married in Rothwell in 1863. They had 10 children, all born in the Rothwell & Belleisle area of Leeds. I remember getting info from the headstones in the local cemetary.
John had a younger brother, Jonah Butterfield and it was this branch of the family I researched. Their parents were William & Hannah Butterfield; their parents in turn were John & Mary Butterfield. Originally they seem to have come from Thornhill near Dewsbury. I got back to 1795 anf then it was a more uncertain, but I have info back to the mid 1700s.
Unfortunately on the paper 'tree; I produced I couldn't fit all the Castleford/Rothwell offspring onto it, but I've got all the info on what would be John Butterfield's younger brother's line of descent.
I have a copy of the tree I made at the time - it's not electronic, but I can post/fax it if it will help you.
