Topic: Baptism lookup Sutton, Cambs - TUBBS (Read 161 times)

Hello All,
Was hoping that someone could help me with baptisms in Sutton, Cambridgeshire.
I am searching for the following family:
Robert TUBBS and Mary SABERTON who married in 1779 at Witcham, Cambs
I think had 3 sons at least born in Sutton
Robert TUBBS born approx 1780 in Sutton
Joseph TUBBS born approx 1781/2 in Sutton
John TUBBS born approx 1785 in Sutton
I would be most grateful if anyone who has access to the Sutton registers could look up these baptisms and also let me know if there are any others to this couple.
I have census info for the above men in 1841, 51 and 61 in Norfolk and Suffolk

I think I've found them-
10th June 1780 Robert of Robert and Mary
25th April 1781 Joseph of " "
4th Feb 1784 John of " "
31st Mar 1785 John of " "
Did you know that there is still a Tubbs farm in Sutton and that John Wesley mentions "an honest Mr Tubbs" who guided him across the fen- probably near Sutton- in 1775?
I have a Mary Tubbs born in Sutton about 1754 in my tree

I suppose it might be too much to ask for but does the record say anything about an occupation for the father Robert?
Thanks for the info re: John Wesley and the farm, I have not been able to do much research for this family so was not aware of the farm. Might look into a little trip there soon though 
Do you have parents for your Mary Tubbs? I think my Robert's parents were Robert and Jane Tubbs but I have not got a baptism for him either. Do you have an index that covers the 1750's? If so could you check for me?
We may just be related yet!

No it doesn't give an occupation for Robert but can check for his parents-will get back to you asap.

I think that my Mary may be the one born in 1761 so she's a cousin to your Robert. She married Robert Porter of Haddenham in about 1778. The name Clement was used in the Porter family right up to 1899.

That's ok. I've just noticed you have Porter and Pope in your list of names-are they from Cambridgeshire too? My grandmother was a Porter from Haddenham and her aunt married a John Pope in 1878.

Hi Anneb,
My Porters were builders from Nottingham and originally Yorkshire I suspect and my Pope rellies are from Wiltshire, had a Chrsitopher Porter who married a Jane Pope in 1822, they ended up out in Australia and the rest as they say is history
So far only my Tubbs' are from Cambridgeshire as far as I can tell!
