Can anyone help me find information about Henry Brown? He had a son called Hall Brown b 1778 in Cornsay, Lanchester who was married in St Andrews, Auckland 21/11/1799 to Elizabeth Gardner from St John's Chapel area.
Henry would have been born c1763+
Any information would be useful.

I found 1851 census Esh Durham
Hall Brown head married 73 ag labourer Durham Cornsay (cant make out some writing)
Elizabeth Brown wife married 70 Brandon?
Hannah Brown visitor 12 scholar Esh
would these be the ones?

Thanks for getting back to me.
Yes this is the right family. I am visiting Grandchildren tonight so I don't have my Family History File with me. I have the Parish Record entry for Hall Brown's marriage and the witness is Henry Brown. As Hall was born in Lanchester, I would think that Henry would be born in the Lanchester or Esh area. The fact that Hall was married in Auckland makes me think that they will have been living around the Lanchester to Auckland area. I have all of the census reports for Hall Brown but Henry never appears with them.

He may not be from or born in Durham area, my fathers family were all from Staffordshire and he was born durham!
I did find Henry Brown Lancashire with a year of birth very close to what you have!

I take your point. Hall had some brothers who were also farmers and they tended to also farm at Boldon near South Shields and Sunderland. I think I will make sure that I have all of their entries for the census reports and see if Henry is down as being with any of them on the census years. May be then (if he appears) it will give me a birth place.
In the mean time can you let me have the details of the Lancashire Henry Brown that you have found. I suppose Lancashire is not so far away from Auckland.

the Henry Brown i found in Lancashire is
born abt 1760 Windle Lancashire
married Alice Gerrard 2 sept 1785
I also went through some deaths over 10 years from 1835-45 (just the years i picked to look thro first) and i only found one Henry Brown death for durham...didnt give an age just the year
Henry Morris Brown 1840 Q4

I'm off to bed now too. Will check this out tomorrow when I get home but you might have hit on something because I vaguely remember an aunt of mine mentioning a Gerrard. So fingers crossed.
