the marriage of Robert Johnstone and Margaret Hogg
married 10th March 1840 at Minnigaf
I need parents names both Robert Johnstone also Maragret Hogg.
copy of marriage certificate if possible.

Hi Ecclescake 
If the parents names aren't listed, which is often the case in the parish records, it is possible to find out their parents' names if Robert and Margaret died in Scotland Jan 1855 onwards. Parents's names are usually entered on death certificates. These are also obtained from the Scotlands People website.

Gadget's correct, Scottish death certificates are really useful. There's three Margaret Hogg/Johnstone deaths in the whole of Scotland (ranging from 1863 to 1935), but the only in Dumfriesshire is in 1894. Here's hoping that their children knew their grandparents!

Have you got them in any of the censuses and, if so,when do they disappear? It would narrow the search for the deaths significantly if you've followed them through.

I was tempted by your 1894 find, hume
It is probably the correct one:
December 4th 1894. ?Pleasance Cottage, Dumfries. Aged 77. Widow of Robert Johnstone, ?Iron fitter. Parents - Thomas Hogg, miller, dec. and Margaret, m.s. Glen, dec.
So Robert died before 1894

I think that on the other thread we decided that the most likely candidates for parents were William Johnstone and Helen Lindsay.
Have you looked into this any further?

Me again 
I've just been checking up on the marriage in 1840. Although it is on the IGI as a controlled extraction - i.e. reliable, there doesn't appear to be a marriage/banns entry on Scotlands People. It seems strange. I'll check up on other people in the same batch to see if there might have been something wrong with it on SP.

Added - my randon searches on this batch -IGI M118764 shows no eqquivalent entries on Scotlands People. I think it is worth you taking this up with Scotlands People, EC.
