Minnie ~ frightened a mouse right under her chair!
|
Can anyone find the following Stonier family on the 1841. I have tried all sorts of permutations but I can't find them. They appear on the 1851 as follows:- Thomas Stonier Hd 45 Weaver b. Macc Emelia (Amelia) Stonier 44 b. Macc Children:- Richard 19, Marian (I think this should be Mary Ann) 15, Ann 13, Elizb 9, Rachel 6, Thomas 3, Emelia (Amelia) 3 months. All children b. Macc
Any help would be appreciated.
PS in 1851 they are living at Cuck Stool Pit Hill ? St Paul's, Macclesfield. Am I reading this correctly ?

Cuck stool Pit Hill it is
the Cuck Stool was a type of ducking stool which would have been close to running water and was used as a punishment for women - from what I remember but I am willing to be corrected

Dear Tricia Yes thats them alright! I never would have thought of trying Stonehouse and they are still at Cuck Stool ! Yes I have googled Cuck Stool and you are quite right It was a punishment stool but with no water involved Female victims were carted around the village tied to a chair to be ridiculed Very interesting - but don't fancy trying it myself.
Thank you for solving this mystery for me mog

Hi Mog
You are more than welcome but I didn't guess at a surname.
I searched on first names and then checked the images of any surnames that could be them.
Good luck with your research,
Tricia
