Census lookup request 1851/1861 for Burt
« on: Saturday 21 May 05 16:59 BST (UK) »

Hi,

Looking for James Burt on the 1851/1861 census. Dorchester area.

Only information I  have on him is that he got married in Dorchester April 1851, to whom I don't know.

On the marriage cert of Mary Ann Burt  ( daughter ) he is named as the father. Not the name of the father I was expecting to see there.

Also Mary Ann was born in Weymouth  ( according to the !901 census. ) unfortunatly does not give her surname.

Little bit of a muddle , need some help.

Thanks,
Granny Annie.

I'm afraid there are too many James Burt's to tell.
Supposing Mary Ann was already born in 1861, I ha

... seems I keep hitting the wrong key on my keyboard.
I have made a research for Mary Ann Burt born in Weymouth, and the only one I have found was born ca. 1852 with a father William...

Sorry Undecided

Thanks for that.

Its a bit of a puzzle, because on the 1901 census Mary Ann born Weymouth abt 1850 married to Thomas Lewis living in Westminster London. ON her daughters birth cert Marys maiden  name was Burt.

I have a Mary Ann Burt , birth cert , stating that William and Caroline were the parents and that she was born 1854 April.

I have the marriage cert of Thomas Lewis and Mary Ann dated June 28th 1875  married in Surrey and her fathers name is JAMES BURT deceased.

Two different fathers ,
I'm confused.

Plus also she had a brother called James, would he have signed the marriage cert as her father James was dead ?
Any ideas, or are there two different Marys !!!!!

Thanks for trying to help.
Granny Annie.

Obviously, this is a mystery... Don't know how to tell where the error is! Besides that, I don't think the brother would have had to sign at the marriage. Any witness would do, I believe!
