In 1871, John H Nettle was listed as the 16-yr old grandson of James Stone of Bitton, Gloucestershire (RG10/2501 F102 P23). He was born in Dorset, and I believe the family is that of the coastguard John Nettle, b.1823 South Huish. That family is on RG10/1996 F16 P2.
Can some kind soul look up the 1861 and check if John H is part of that family. He should be 6 yrs old.
I should think that Mary A Nettle (b.1831 Siston, Glos) is probably a Stone, but cannot find any proof. Any help on the marriage would be appreciated. FreeBMD doesn't seem to include it yet.

Have looked on the 1861 census for John H Nettle aged 6, but cannot find one.
I did find the family i.e. Mary Ann Nettle born "Gloster" England living in West Lulworth, Dorset, with a husband John born South Huish, Devon and a son James born 1860 at West Lulworth, Dorset. Mary's age is given as 30,John is aged 38, and James is aged 1.
They are living in the household of George and Hannah Emmett Ref = RG9/1346/12/37/9

Searched 1854 and 1855 on 1837 for birth of John Nettle
There is a birth for a John Henry Nettle for the quarter ending June 1854 but that is where the good news ends.
The image was virtually unreadable and the birthplace mightjust be Wareham which is in Dorset and the reference just might be 3a 323 but I don't really think this definite enough to order from Southport.
If you can't verify his parentage any other way and I can't see that you can it may be worthwhile writing to Wareham registry Office asking for the birth cert ofJohn Henry Nettle born 1854. You will not need the reference number.

South & West Dorset

Tel: 01305 760899.
You will need to enclose cheque for £7 and a stamped self addressed envelope. Make cheque payable to Superintendant Registrar.
There were no other births registered in those years for a John H Nettle or John Nettle
It's worth a try
