Unless the Local Registry Offices initiative or local FHS have transcribed marriages from this period, you will have to get the Certificate to obtain that level of detail.

Hi Newfy

I was hoping that someone could look up for me in Beds RO. I have no idea if this has been transcribed - just hoping.

Hi Carol

In case you don't have this I've had a quick look at the censuses - Joseph who married Millicent is a shoemaker born Leighton Buzzard c1860 living in Leighton Buzzard, his mother is Ann Whybrow unmarried on all censuses. In 1871 she is housekeeper to Joseph Clarke house decorater also unmarried and has another child Samuel born c 1862.

Carol

I sent you a message re this family - but I also now see this couple lost a son during the Great War [William Samuel WHYBROW, Lance Corporal, of the 1st Bn, Bedfordshire Regiment who died on 7th Feb 1919 and he was 24 & buried in Leighton Buzzard].

He is listed on the LB War Memorial which is online and also the CWGC site.

As Joseph was a shoemaker - you may find him on the ''Historical Directories'' website which is free online also?

Did the couple marry in LB?  I will look their marriage up for you this week...and see what it says.

Hi Cathy

Thanks for your reply. I did know about Joseph and Millicents son William Samuel. I can only go by Joseph and Millicent married LB as the 1891 census has them living East Street , Leighton Buzzard Ecc. Parish All Saints. Have had a quick look at Historical Directories will have to find my way around that site.

Thanks for the offer to look at their marriage.

Many thanks......Carol

I could not find Joseph and Milicent's marriage in Leighton Buzzard.  I think they married in Buckinghamshire [and Leighton Buzzard Registration District covers a bit of Bucks] where Milicent came from - ''Ledburn'' according to the census - she was in Wingrave with her family in 1881.  Perhaps, someone from the Bucks list can access the Registers?  It may be worth ordering the certificate if not.

Ann WHYBROW [Joseph's mother] died aged 65, she is listed as single on the 1891?  Daisy WHYBROW [Joseph & Milicent's first child] died aged 23 - in the Registration District of Biggleswade.   Probably at Fairfield Hospital [Stotfold] which treated the mentally ill and consumptives  too.

Try the rootweb mailing lists too?

Many thanks for looking for the marriage between Coleman/Whybrow. I shall put a request on Bucks site.  Thanks also for the info  regarding Daisy Whybrow's death.

Leighton Buzzard registration district covered 12 parishes in Bucks. Unless you know which parish they married in it's a tall order. Simpler to buy the certificate from the GRO

Apart from buying the certificate - and it can get be expensive if you are ordering several.  So, I applaud anyone who can avoid paying for lots of certs  Grin

I think Wingrave looks a likely bet as Millicent was living there with her own family in 1881 census - but Wingrave is not Wing which was part Leighton Buzzard Registration District - but Wingrave is part of Bucks Registration and alwayd was  Sad

It may be that the cert is the only way to get to next generation?

Hi Cathy

I also think Millicent married Joseph Whybrow in Wingrave and  moved to Leighton Buzzard after her marriage. If I don't receive a reply from Roots chat I shall have a look in the parish records on Bucks FHS open day, which I hope to attend.

Thanks for your help.
