BIRD family in WELLS 1851 / 1861

I would be grateful if someone could take a look at the 1851 &/or 1861 Census for the Bird family in Wells, Norfolk or its close vicinity.

I am attempting to trace more information about my great great great grandfather's family. A transcript from the 1871 Census lists him settled in Ipswich, Suffolk, but he was originally born & bred in Wells.

JONATHAN BIRD born 1842 / 1843 at Wells, Norfolk
aged 8 in 1851
aged 18 in 1861

In later life his occupation was always associated with the care of horses: at various times he is described as being either Groom, Ostler or Stableman.

Unfortunately, I know nothing of his parentage and would appreciate a lead.

I think you will need to get to see the Wells registers to see who his parents were or his birth certificate.

There are people on the for sale board who offer research in Norfolk.

Its definately a contender as both the age and birthplace are correct.

Curious entry though - an 8 yr old lodger? The first assumption is that the elder Johnathan is his father/grandfather but he appears to be unmarried.

As you suggest I'll try to track a birth certificate. Do you happen to know if Wells bdm's are held at Norwich Register Office or elsewhere?
