I am researching my maternal ancestors Watts, and with the kind help of Heather B & Munchies, have traced back to Edward Watts, sadler, his wife Mary and three children in the 1851 Wotton Census.
The Pigots Directory for 1830 lists the following:
Samual Watts, tailor, High Street Wotton Joseph Watts, bookseller, Long Street Wotton Edward Watts, saddler & harness maker, Long Street Wotton
So it appears that there was a strong Watts presence in the town in the early 1800's
Any help in tracing the earlier generations would be appreciated.

Hello Criggy
Sorry for delay in replying. I have been having a lot of problems with internet, which have finally been tracked down to a BT line fault. This has now been repaired and I'm able to download umpteen e-mails. Thanks for all this info which is really extremely interesting. Watts research is going very well thanks to RootsChat, and some time soon I intend to go down to Wootton where the Heritage Centre people have kindly offered their help - hopefully to fill in some local colour.
Thanks again Regads Capman
