Hi D Welcome to Rootschat...Just tried the 71 census hoping to find her but alas no sign of her ...plenty of Hatch's born Hartpury but no Mary......here r all the Hatch's in Hartpury in 1851 census before her birth which may help u later with her family

Hi thank you both for the information much appreciated
My g grandmother Mary J Hatch moved and married in1878 to Barrow upon Soar and on the marriage records I see her fathers name was Thomas Hatch I wonder if this could be the same Thomas that you mention on the 1851 census?

Hi D.... Tried 71 again now knowing she should be there but alas I just cant find her...This is the only Thomas appearing on the 71 in Harpury....I Tried Barrow Upon Soar as well to no avail

Thomas 44 here 28 in 51 I would suspect is poss the same man from 51 there certainly r no other possibilities there..... I Did find this (Names and ages r as is stated above and Thomas is a Gardener if that tells u anything from the marriage cert?

Sue you could be right it seems to be looking that way I am going to double check on the marriage certificate I have sent for a copy as the one I looked at was on micro fiche and was sometime ago.
My g grandmother Mary is proving to be quite a mystery I know she was born in Hartpury then moved later on to Barrow upon Soar and married T James had several children He died very early in the marriage she then lived with G Clarke in Barrow and they had several children together but they were all given the surname James one of which was my grandfather They all then moved to Codnor in Derbyshire But I cannot find out where she died or is buried or even when. I do know that she was a seamstress.

I could try Jane instead of Mary although on the 1901 census I have her down as Mary but you never know things were often misspelled in those days I will let you know about the marriage cert it will probably take a while to get here as they are busy since the family tree programme has been shown on tv. Yes it would be lovely to find out that we ae related
